New Office Opened

Updated: Oct 8, 2019

1st Subsurface is pleased to announce the opening of our new office headquarters at 14 Golden Square, Aberdeen, AB10 1RH. The company is an oil and gas consultancy primarily focused on subsurface data. It has a team of 24 active staff and associates and is best known for strategic area plans and for its TROVE database product range.

TROVE is one of the largest and most complete sources of technical subsurface and infrastructure information for oil and gas fields and discoveries in most of the world's oil and gas provinces. TROVE contains open-source data on every field and discovery in those provinces. TROVE also captures data on prospects and leads where available, with hundreds of undrilled opportunities on the UKCS alone. TROVE contains detailed information on reservoir parameters, hydrocarbon properties and oil and gas volumetrics. The database also holds unstructured data including cross sections, maps and well correlations. Asset infrastructure and development solutions are also presented, aiding project engineers to identify technology analogues for proven and potential discoveries. There is an audit trail for all of the data, meaning that users can assess the quality of the data for themselves. Yet TROVE is extremely user-friendly, running on Windows software with no requirement for special training or applications.

Built into TROVE databases are an impressive array of analytic tools, including functionality allowing users to compare chosen fields, discoveries or prospects with the entire regional dataset within the relevant basin. Dashboards provide at-a-glance overviews of geologic basins, with rapid filtering allowing companies to highlight areas of interest, whether to look at analogues for new developments or to high-grade prospective areas.

The experienced multidisciplinary team at 1st Subsurface also facilitates Special Interest Groups with oil and gas operating companies to assist in the preparation of strategic area plans to maximise economic recovery through shared knowledge and collaborative studies.

With representatives in London, Houston, Washington DC & Calgary, the company has partial follow-the-sun support services. We are expanding our coverage into other business sectors. More information can be found at or contact

Mike Cooper, Managing Director of 1st Subsurface, commented:

“With subscribers for TROVE ranging from super-majors to small independent oil & gas companies, it was the right time to progress from being a virtual organisation to have a central HQ where we can exchange ideas and respond rapidly to client requests. We continue to expand TROVE’s global coverage and we are expanding into a number of other business areas including Europe-wide gas storage & CCS, global LNG and European wind energy”.
